Salon.com and Brittany Cooper Promote Racism

Many white folks believe that black criminality has produced white fear and that white fear in the presence of black masculinity is therefore always justified. But the opposite is true. White anxiety and fear and racism have produced the myth of pervasive black criminality. Intraracial black violence is a problem, but white racism has produced the concentrated structures of poverty and lack of access to education that give rise to violent behaviors.

This is considered worthy of being published on Salon.com?  This is exactly the problem with Media today, a one sided breathtakingly racist approach.  And, if one thinks this is the worst of what is contained within the article, you would have to be kidding.  We all know reporters who could have written up a much more thought out argument for racism.  This is just plain vile.

The "myth of pervasive black criminality" struck a chord.  Is it a myth?  No, not whatsoever; and, this is not just an opinion, but fact.  A white male is more than twice as likely to be murdered by a black male than the reverse.  Keep in mind, white males FAR outnumber black males in the US.

On Saturday, a Florida jury failed to convict Michael Dunn for the callous murder of Jordan Davis. Though he was convicted of three counts of attempted murder and also on a gun charge, a mistrial was declared for the first-degree murder charge. He will face substantial jail time – perhaps up to 75 years on the four charges for which he was found guilty.
Fair enough, right?  Even when people are sometimes guilty, it is hard to prove 1st degree murder for a reason; it carries the highest burden of proof on the prosecution and also the longest prison sentence for such an offense.

Cooper goes on to state that she does not trust Prosecutor Angela Corey, because she failed to convict George Zimmerman.

Therefore, I don’t trust Corey. It is clear that Florida prosecutors are fairly unclear about how to defend black life against an onslaught of white murder.
I think it we can safely and fairly assume that it is open season on black teenagers, if the murders of Trayvon, Jordan and Renisha McBride are any indication.
What???  The "onslaught of white murder" and "open season" are supposed to suggest what?  But, it gets worse...
I teach college students, and in the hopefulness and optimism of their youth, they are often quick to point out that racial politics are so “different in their generation.” But what I see is black students their age being murdered unceremoniously in locales throughout the country, by white or non-black men, who receive insufficient justice for their crimes.
Black being is the problem. Not black thuggery. Black boys officially exist in a state of social death, because the law continues to tell us that their lives, when taken by white men, are legally indefensible. They have been rendered by the law dead men walking. It’s no wonder then that in so many places they act like it.  White thuggery, meanwhile, marches on, mowing down black folks at every turn, white sheets, sight unseen.
In 2012, according to the FBI, 431 white people were killed by black people.  In comparison, 193 black people were killed by white people.  Meanwhile, black on black crime produced 2412 homicides and white on white 2614.

According to the Census (2012), the US population is estimated to be 77.9% White alone, while blacks accounted for 13.1% of the total population.

If it were truly open season, these stats would not hold true.  Putting it nicely, blacks are MUCH more likely to kill someone than a white person.  Whether it is due to poverty, etc. is not the point, nor will it be argued in this piece.  And attributing "white racism" to poverty issues is arguably a weak point, at best.

Simply put, it is astounding that this would even be published on a major site like Salon.com.  Numerous, more thoughtful, writers and news researchers are readily available that could write better than this garbage.  Instigating racial hatred over a false argument and dangerous.  No one argues that racism does not exist, but our judicial system does quite well on turning a blind eye to race.

Lastly, Cooper suggests that nonviolence may no longer be the answer:

The question is how should black people respond? Having seen a lot of violence in my childhood, I’m a deep believer in and practitioner of nonviolence. But in the face of unreasonable violence toward our children, why do black people owe the nation the safety of our reasonable, rational, nonviolent responses? Whether we take it to the streets or stay home and raise our sons and daughters, they are killed all the same.
Is that what this has all come to?  Insighting violence against white people is not the answer.  Even suggesting it is not the answer.  If a white person were to come out and say this regarding all the black on white violence, they would be hung by their toes in the town square.  Yet, this is seemingly flying under the radar.  It really makes a person wonder, where is this going?
